Six
years ago, while my grandmother was visiting me from North Carolina,
I was amazed to discover that she had never before used a computer.
As a middle-school student, I had grown up immersed in technology
and couldn't imagine life without it. I set out to introduce her to
an important part of my life.
Within a few hours, "Ma Ma" knew the basics. She could turn on the
computer, position the cursor using the mouse, and even do some
basic formatting in Microsoft Word. Together we were surfing Bible
and gardening websites on the Internet. We even printed out recipes
for dinner that night.
I quickly realized that the technological era of the past twenty
years had completely left-behind an entire generation. Inspired by
the experience with my grandmother, I began providing free computer
tutorial seminars to senior citizens in my area. The program grew
quickly and became affectionately known as the Senior Surfers Group.
Demand for computer services proved to be present beyond the senior
citizen generation. Hollar 4 Hollar Computer Services was founded in
2003 to serve the needs of younger citizens and corporations. |
